“The Boat”

The inspiration for the mural are files and pictures of failed attempts to escape from the GDR, which were located by the Stasi. It depicts an attempt to escape in a boat that is stranded on a meadow. The additionally painted columns are intended to integrate the viewer into the picture as part of the escape. The picture was created in 2023 using facade paint and brushes in the style of mural painting.

The artist was born in Laufen (Germany), a small town on the Salzach. In 2020 she moved to Erfurt (Thuringia) and began working increasingly with oil paints.

Fascinated by female artists of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, she taught herself to paint. In the 19th century, she learned to paint and expressed herself primarily through colorful oil portraits that convey lightness and sensitivity to what is depicted.

She focuses on portraying strong characters that her “young self” can look up to. Often in contrast to expressive foliage. Color and light play an important role in her art. Large, strong brushstrokes are her trademark.

Shortly after completing her studies (BA in Applied Media and Communication Sciences, 2016-2022) at the TU Ilmenau, the artist began working full-time as a mural painter. She fell in love with the process of transferring her art to large walls.
