With guitarist Paulo Morello, bassist Marc Muellbauer, and drummer Heinrich Köbberling, three masters of their craft have come together—each with an impressive musical career of their own—to form a jazz trio brimming with virtuosity, joy of playing, and stylistic openness. Original compositions, jazz standards, and Brazilian influences merge into a tight, grooving band sound that leaves plenty of room for improvisation, interaction, and subtle tonal nuances.

Paulo Morello is considered one of Europe’s most interesting jazz guitarists. Together with Grammy winner Leny Andrade or Bossa Nova pioneer Johnny Alf, he has appeared at the most important jazz festivals in Europe and South America. His baptism by fire in the Hammond trio tradition came as a sideman to the legendary Jimmy Smith, whom he accompanied on his final European tour. Morello has also worked with Randy Brecker, Bob Mintzer, Paul Kuhn, Ivan Lins, Pat Martino, Airto Moreira, Ulf Wakenius, Philip Catherine, and Larry Coryell. “Paulo Morello’s guitar sounds as if George Benson had moved to Rio de Janeiro,” wrote the AZ Munich. Since 2020, Morello has been a professor of guitar at the Jazz Institute Berlin.

Marc Muellbauer, born in London and living in Berlin, works as a bassist, composer, and bandleader. As a member of the Julia Hülsmann Quartet, he recorded his seventh album for the Munich-based label ECM in 2019 with Not Far From Here. Alongside the quartet and the Julia Hülsmann Trio, he composes and arranges for his nine-piece band Marc Muellbauer’s Kaleidoscope and the Wood and Steel Trio. He works in a wide range of musical settings, including the Lisbeth Quartet, electronic music with Moritz v. Oswald, film music studios, with singer-songwriters, and in contemporary classical music.

Heinrich Köbberling is a drummer and composer who has been shaping the German jazz scene for many years. He has worked with international artists such as Ernie Watts, Julia Hülsmann, Gunter Hampel, Benny Bailey, Attila Zoller, and Richie Beirach. In addition to numerous albums as a sideman, he has released three records under his own name. After studying in Hamburg and at the Mannes College of Music in New York, he spent many years as a freelance musician in the USA before teaching at conservatories in Leipzig and later at the Jazz Institute Berlin, where he is now a professor of jazz drums and ensemble.
