Teufelsberg Berlin:
A Place of Transformation for the Future
Teufelsberg has a fascinating history. It stands as a symbol and source of inspiration for change, creativity, and renewal. Anyone who sets foot on the hill cannot help but be touched by the atmosphere of freedom—an atmosphere that is also reflected in the expansive view over Berlin and its surroundings.
Teufelsberg literally rose from the rubble of World War II, built from the debris of postwar Berlin atop the foundations of an unfinished military-technical college of the Nazis, the Wehrtechnische Fakultät. Its elevated position made it an ideal site for reuse as a U.S. listening station during the Cold War, known as “Field Station Berlin,” which served as a base for espionage. Today, it has shed its cloak of secrecy and now stands as a vibrant center for art and culture, serving as a venue for street art and hosting some of the city’s most exciting events.
